Educator

For the past twenty years, Andrea has engaged students as a classroom teacher, a behavior coach, a magnet coordinator and an administrator.  Her connections to the community and arts organizations has allowed her to leverage partnerships and experiences that benefit students of all ages in gaining a foundation in all art forms; especially through the nonprofit she founded, Kidsview Inc.  www.kidsviewinc.com

During her time as a magnet coordinator, she worked with not only the school's administration, but also the school student leadership to help them find an innovative way to implement "The Leader In Me" program school wide.  She wrote and recorded an original rap that students learned and performed to show they understood the "Seven Habits of Happy Kids" (also known as the seven habits of highly effective people) arranged to the music of "Not Throwing away my Shot" from Hamilton the Musical.

She also connected the student leadership and school population to opportunities to meet and be mentored by local celebrities such as former NBA player, Derek Anderson.

Andrea not only taught as a certified music teacher in the classroom, but for years would work in after school programs at local community centers.  This allowed her the opportunity to lay a solid foundation for students as they learned about possible pathways should they continue pursuing the arts. She has been blessed to have had multiple students who have gone on to lead professional performance careers; including but not limited to:

Key'mon Murrah-Professional Opera Singer

Kay'mon Murrah- Professional Opera Singer, Artistic Coordinator at Boston Lyric Opera

Aqura Lacey- Professional Dancer, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

Chase Phillips- Musical Theatre lead in Motown the Musical

Using her network of local visual and performing teaching artists, Andrea curated an online series titled "Black365 Arts Series."  This series was used to teach both students and staff about the important contributions of African Americans in the Arts throughout history while spotlighting local African American Artists that are still performing today.  This series was streamed on social media, youtube and to students K-12th grade in Louisville, KY.

Additional videos from this series can be viewed HERE.
